On December 29, 1980, three people driving through the Piney Woods of Texas reported one of the strangest UFO encounters ever investigated.
Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum and her young grandson Colby said they encountered a huge, diamond-shaped object hovering over the road, surrounded by intense light and producing what appeared to be flames or a fiery exhaust beneath it.
But the story became even stranger.
According to the witnesses, a formation of military helicopters arrived around the object, with estimates eventually reaching more than twenty aircraft. The witnesses also reported experiencing physical symptoms after the encounter, with Betty Cash becoming seriously ill.
The case eventually attracted investigators, journalists and lawyers, and ultimately became the subject of a lawsuit against the U.S. government.
But what actually happened on that lonely Texas road?
