Joseph Andreas Epp was a German engineer and author best known for his controversial claims about “flying disc” aircraft. Born in 1914 in Rosenheim, Germany, Epp said he was involved in experimental aviation projects during the final years of World War II, particularly designs for circular, disk-shaped aircraft sometimes linked to so-called Nazi “flying saucers.”
After the war, he continued promoting these ideas, eventually publishing a book titled Die Realität der Flugscheiben (“The Reality of the Flying Discs”), in which he described alleged test flights and technical concepts behind such craft. Epp maintained that these designs represented advanced aeronautical engineering far ahead of their time.
However, his claims have been widely disputed. Historians and aviation experts generally consider the idea of operational Nazi flying discs to be unproven and lacking credible evidence. As a result, Epp is often associated more with post-war UFO lore and speculative theories than with established aerospace achievements.
