A. J. Gevaerd (1962-2022) was one of Brazil's most respected UFO researchers and the founder of *Revista UFO*, the country's longest-running publication dedicated to the study of unidentified aerial phenomena. For more than four decades, Gevaerd investigated hundreds of UFO cases across Brazil and became a leading advocate for the release of government UFO records.
Gevaerd is best known internationally for his work on the Colares UFO Incident and Operation Prato, the Brazilian Air Force investigation into a wave of extraordinary sightings and encounters reported in the Amazon region during 1977. Through years of research, interviews, and document analysis, he helped bring global attention to one of the most controversial and well-documented UFO cases in history.
In 1997, Gevaerd conducted a landmark interview with Captain Uyrangê Hollanda, the military officer who led Operation Prato. During that interview, Hollanda publicly discussed the events of Colares in unprecedented detail, providing testimony that would become central to modern research into the case.
Beyond his investigations, Gevaerd played a key role in Brazil's UFO disclosure movement, helping to pressure authorities into releasing thousands of pages of previously classified military and government documents. His efforts preserved important historical records and made them accessible to researchers worldwide.
Whether viewed as a journalist, investigator, or historian of the UFO phenomenon, A. J. Gevaerd's work remains an important part of the legacy of the Colares incident and Brazil's contribution to the study of unexplained aerial phenomena.
